Mandatory reporting requirements of any home inspector performing an inspection of a home with a pool, whether or not the inspector is performing a pool inspection.

Overview & Discussion of the Pool Safety Act and its impact on all Home Inspectors.

The pool seminar is approved for 4 CREIA/ASHI CEC’s.

David Pace is a CREIA inspector and the CREIA State Legislative Committee Chair.  David has spent countless hours in Sacramento meeting one on one, testifying, etc. on this bill.  Few people in the state know it as well as Dave.  He will be talking about the law itself.  His presentation includes recommendations from several attorneys CREIA consulted regarding the bills implications.  There will be some recommended reporting language as well.

Kevin Healy is the owner and broker at Fort Baker Insurance.  He deals with E&O insurance for home inspectors.  Kevin will talk about the impact this bill may have on E&O insurance costs and coverage.

Michael Casey is the owner of Michael Casey & Associates.  Michael is a nationally recognized speaker and trainer for inspection profession.  He is also a nationally recognized expert witness for inspector standard of care and injury cases.    Mike will be talking about what it will look like in court should we be unlucky enough to inspect a home with a pool or spa where someone later dies.  We will cover three basic scenarios:  inspector knows nothing about the law and consequently – said nothing, next the inspector knows of the law and thought they could simply disclaim the pool/spa safety requirements, lastly – the inspector made a good faith effort to comply to the extent possible.

Rick English, English Pool Consulting will be talking the basics of barriers and safety devices.  Some of what the new law requires is impossible to do in the field.  Rick will help us understand what we can and cannot determine.  Rick is one of the most knowledgeable people in the pool industry.  He consults as an expert witness nationwide.
