6:00 PM: Education Roundtable led by Perry Farnum
An audience participation hour, with the goal to sharpen report writing skills. The room discusses how they report conditions observed during an inspection. The conditions are presented visually, pre-submitted comments are read and evaluated the room. Do the comments clearly identify the condition, locate it, describe it, define why it is an issue, and recommend what to do about it? This is always a lively discussion and challenging session for inspectors new and old.
7:00 PM: The Future of Our Industry, led by Hohn LaTorra, CSG Consultants
John LaTorra, Regional Manager, CSG Consultants, Inc. (Retired Building Inspection Manager, City of Redwood City for over 40 years) speaks on the recent, current, and possible future direction for our industry. John will cover highlights of residential building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, energy and green building code requirements. We will discuss legislation, the push for PV, electric vehicles, energy storage, “Zero net energy buildings”, tiny homes, ADU’s, help for the homeless, dealing with fires, ghost-ship properties, and deck collapse, the push to eliminate gas-fired appliances, water conservation, notification of accessibility requirements, and certification possibilities.
