Servicing most of the San Francisco Bay Area, the certified inspector members of the Silicon Valley ASHI and CREIA chapter have been credentialed by either or both of the American Society of Home Inspectors and the California Real Estate Inspectors Association.
Integrity, reliability, and competence all describe members of Silicon Valley ASHI/CREIA. Silicon Valley ASHI/CREIA is the South Bay chapter of the American Society of Home Inspectors and the California Real Estate Inspection Association. ASHI and CREIA are widely recognized as two of the oldest and finest associations representing property inspectors in California and throughout the country. Those listed on this site hold membership in one or both organizations to assure you of the highest possible standards when scheduling a property inspection.
Regardless of their affiliation, all members of our chapter adhere to standards of practice and a code of ethics set forth by their association. A member is required to complete a set number or hours of continuing education each year; and passing an exam before full membership is granted gives you the confidence that your inspector is ready to service your inspection needs.
Some inspectors might be part of a larger company where the other inspectors are not members of ASHI or CREIA. We recommend that you check out the membership status of any inspector before scheduling.
Some join the chapter for the education opportunities to become better inspectors; others join for the camaraderie while exchanging “war” stories and getting support from other home inspectors. It’s nice to have a chance to meet with fellow inspectors that share a common interest. Others join hoping to get business by associating with local inspectors and participating in PR opportunities. As a member you receive discounts at all chapter sponsored educational events and get preferential early bird sign-ups and up to a $35.00 discount on solely sponsored chapter seminars. You get your own webpage on the chapter website (must be full ASHI or CREIA member). Your name is listed on all PR materials sent out by the chapter (must be a full member of ASHI or CREIA), and you get a discount on the dinners served at the monthly meetings.
Workshops and Training
The chapter offers you the chance to hone your skills as a home inspector. The pre-education meetings at 5pm and 6pm every month provide one hour of general information and real field situations with photos and an open discussion on what others write in their reports on a particular topic. Periodically, study sessions are provided to prepare you for taking the ASHI and CREIA membership tests and the ICC municipal inspector exams. During the year, the chapter sponsors educational seminars for the benefit of our members and other area home inspectors. Some seminars are all day, providing in-depth information on specific topics such as mechanical, plumbing, and electrical.
The chapter meetings are the second Wednesday of each month, January through November. The meeting place is the Blue Pheasant Restaurant in Cupertino, off Stevens Creek Blvd.
At 6PM, a one hour session discussion about conditions found at home inspections take place. Members send in comments before the meeting, and we go over the comment language that describes the condition and recommendations. It’s an opportunity to find out if we are saying the right things about a condition and sometimes you may pick-up valuable pointers to improve the quality of your reports.
At 7PM, the official chapter meeting starts, followed by dinner and a guest speaker at about 7:30PM.
Even though chapter membership is encouraged, everyone is welcome to attend our meetings and sponsored educational events. Fees do apply to some of the chapter events. The chapter provides seminars to educate members and non-members so they are better prepared to deal with what they find while on an inspection.
